Our History
(City of Portland Archives)
Built in 1920, Parkrose Ballroom is a hidden gem of Northeast Portland.
Known for its springy maple-wood dance floor, the ballroom has been a place of social gathering, community, and dance for over 100 years.
In 1941, the formation of the United Services Organizations by FDR facilitated on-leave recreation for US armed forces during WWII. Parkrose Ballroom became one of many official USO dance halls, cementing its place as a cornerstone in Portland’s dance history.
Now the ballroom stands at the heart of a neighborhood in transition. Parkrose, formerly an agricultural and industrial district, has become the focus of multiple organizations looking to revitalize the area. The ballroom itself enjoys a location directly on the bus line, and its clients have welcomed the establishment of Parkrose Coffee just next door.
Parkrose Ballroom is host to a variety of events and services, from social events to weekly dance classes to private dance instruction. Check out our calendar and upcoming events pages to see what we have going on!
We are also always excited to hear from interested vendors who see the potential in our beautiful space. We would love to work with you to see your vision come to life.
Happy dancing!
